Asenath, hunch-backed and pale, works in a mill with prettier girls, and yet it is her that Dick courts--for a while, anyway. He is reluctant to break off with her when his heart turns to another. A disaster at the mill prevents him having to do so and gives Asenath a chance to be selfless.
Incidental supernatural content: Jesus comes to the heroine when she is dying.
