First published in the magazine supplement of The Boston Phoenix, May 13, 1980. Stephen King selected this story as the "Winning Tale of Terror or The Occult" in a contest sponsored by the newspaper. The blurb mentions "Stanley Wiater has just completed a psychological horror novel entitled NIGHTOUCH", which was never published; the only mention of it online is at https://lopezbooks.com/catalog/162/static/?page=4, in #86.
