The author notes the outcome of a contemporary murder trial, in which a woman's friends and family killed her during an attempt to exorcise her of a demon they believed had possessed her, and suggests that it might have been partially due to Benson's essay noting that the killers acted in accordance with a primitive urge to save her from demonic possession.
