"I got the idea for this from a walk along Lych Way, an old funeral path through Wistman's Wood on Dartmoor. It is a haunted place where the spectral, Wish Hounds that hunt with Dewer, the Devil, are said to kennel beneath the trees. It made me wonder what else lurked behind the contorted oaks. The horn and shield are traditional symbols of challenge from Arthurian legend. The protagonist blows the horn and beats the shield to summon up the Black Knight or Dragon."
