Robert E. Howard

First published 1972
Type Poem

First appeared in The Baylor United Statement, Spring 1923. No copy is known to exist; publication is known because Howard mentioned it in a letter to Tevis Clyde Smith, June 22, 1923 ("Clyde sahib, greeting: / I found your first letter waiting..."). It is not clear if the newspaper was published by Baylor University or Baylor College for Women, now the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.
Also published in Howard's home town newspaper, the Cross Plains Review, June 29, 1923 and June 8, 2000.
Lines 1-6 appear on p. 203 of Dark Valley Destiny by L. Sprague de Camp, Bluejay.
