The original French text first appeared in Le Figaro Illustré in the 1884-85 supplement to Figaro, in a unique issue published 5 Dec, 1884, and illustrated by Adolphe-Léon Willette [Information from jules-verne-club.de]. The first English translation of this story appeared in the simultaneous (or near simultaneous) English edition of the same issue of Le Figaro Illustré according to www.julesverne.ca/vernebooks/jules-verne_frritt-flacc.html. Subsequently published in Magasin d'Éducation et de Récréation as "Fritt-Flacc" and illustrated by George Roux (as G. Roux) on 1 Dec, 1886 (issue #527) [Magazine information based on semi-annual bound volume of Bibliothèque d'éducation et de récréation (44)]. Minor variations exist between various printings.
