This is the first half of Richard Wilhelm's "Die Sekte vom weißen Lotos;" it appeared in the same abridgment in Spanish translation in Cuentos breves y extraordinarios, and is probably retranslated by Anthony Kerrigan from the Spanish rather than directly from Wilhelm.
