"On the last page of Carroll's hand-lettered manuscript of Alice's Adventures Under Ground, which he gave to Alice Liddell, he pasted an oval photograph of her face that he had taken in 1859 when she was seven, the age of Alice in the story. It was not until 1977 that Morton Cohen discovered concealed underneath this photograph a drawing of Alice's face. It is the only known sketch Dodgson ever made of the real Alice."
