45 illustrations 44 woodcuts represent Adam's faux hieroglyphics as unnumbered even pages 2 to 88 in the 1904 chapbook and 89+109-page editions of the collection; also in the 199-page Prometheus edition. "Writing His Diary", signed "Strothmann", is a shaded drawing or painting of Adam at work on a stone table as Eve and several animals look on. It is reproduced as frontispiece of the 1904 chapbook, where a selection is stamped and colored as the book cover illustration, and as frontispiece of the 1931 collection (viewed thus at HathiTrust). It is missing from some editions including the 199-page Prometheus.
