"Soulsaver" takes a satirical look at a future America whose government has been taken over by religious extremists and explores what might happen in such a society if the Second Coming actually occurred. As it builds, it depicts the effects of religious fervor gone mad and the struggles of its initially innocent young protagonist to decide who and what to believe in.
A short-story version of Soulsaver appeared in the September 1983 issue of Isaac Asimov's Science Fiction Magazine, vol. 7, no. 9.
