The Starseed program has launched 98 quantum-wave ships from Earth to seed the universe with humanity, when social and economic pressures bring the program to a premature end. When the gravity well of a dying black dwarf pulls the 99th ship out of its quantum wave, the crew is forced to land on a frozen planet. There they set out to survive the absolute-zero environment, as well as investigate the history behind the ancient structures abandoned by some prior inhabitants.
