Outside a small town a severed dog's head is pulled from a lake, and the town's deputy, recently displaced by the death of his parents, feels drawn to it.
Primarily psychological horror, there is a possible interpretation that the ancient dog's head is somehow influencing the narrator's behaviour. This is the only potential speculative element in the story.
