Agent Fatma el-Sha'arawi (investigator for the Ministry of Alchemy, Enchantments and Supernatural Entities first introduced in "A Dead Djinn in Cairo") is back in action after saving the world. She's been saddled with Ministry trainee Hadia Abdel Hafez and a doozy of a case: members of a secret brotherhood dedicated to the sorcerer al-Jahiz have been found brutally murdered in a wealthy Westerner's mansion. Meanwhile a mysterious figure claiming to be al-Jahiz himself stirs up trouble in the streets of Cairo with displays of magical might. Tensions are running high and the unrest threatens to spill over onto the global stage as a monumental peace summit looms.
