Tarzan on Mars

S. J. Byrne

First published 1966
Type Novel
Series Tarzan Universe › Unauthorized Tarzan

Tarzan's adventures on Mars (Barsoom).

Written in the 1950s by {{a|Stuart J. Byrne}} under the pen name John Bloodstone. Byrne wrote 31 chapters and left the novel incomplete; the last chapter was written by an unknown author. The novel was first mentioned in the essay Tarzan Never Dies! by {{a|Ray Palmer}}, published in Other Worlds Science Stories, November 1955. Palmer tried to pressure Edgar Rice Burroughs's estate into authorizing the novel, but the estate refused, so it remained unpublished for years. The novel was reportedly first published as an unauthorized edition of 10 copies in 1966 -- see the publication record for details. It was serialized in the pulp fanzine Aces by {{a|Paul McCall}} between 1994 and 1997 and had several unauthorized editions. In 2001, it was published by Lohae Press. Note that it has been suggested that this novel was later rewritten by Byrne and published as Thundar: Man of Two Worlds (1971), but, according to {{a|Daniel J. Davis}}, this is not true.
