Another illustration was used on the 1951 book cover, and a 1951 dust jacket with this illustration is not expected. This one is similar to one of Bradfield's interior illustrations (1951, black-and-white line drawings), which is reproduced on page 61 of the Scholastic edition (7th printing, March 1973, viewed at Archive.org). That one depicts bathtub and passengers only, moving horizontally across the page.

The Scholastic cover art and design date from no later than 1970, by inference from WorldCat record {{OCLC|1219858}} as Scholastic "[1970]" (no printing number) and March 1973 date of the 7th printing.
