On Mark Hodder's website he says "This story is included in a re-written form—and retitled COUNTESS SABINA TRAINS A GHOST—in STRANGE AFFAIRS AND CURIOUS CASES: A BURTON & SWINBURNE COMPANION VOL. 1". Presumably this was written first, but unpublished at the time; the ISFDB software's going by publication date means this version had to be entered as the variant.
