"Part Two Marginalia. Mervin pops out of the portal. He immediately lands in a crowd of fleeing people. The people have long legs fully extended for the run, bulging, terrified eyes, and at least one babe in arms. The dust they kick up as they flee comes up to Mervin's armpits. After the people have passed, a giant eyeball monster with chunky tentacles flees after them. Behind the eyeball monster is a long-haired man with giant arms (though it looks like he might skip leg day). The man wields an enormous axe and seems to have forgotten his clothes. The monster and man fight off-stage, emitting splatters of inky blood, a few bones, some stun stars, and a dialogue bubble with a dead skull in it. Mervin begins removing the beard that's too big for him. Mervin scurries to the top-heavy man. The man's fists are covered with blood, and the monster is curled around his feet, its eyeball with a dead X across it. Mervin offers his beard to the top-heavy man. The top-heavy man, after washing the blood off his hands, dons the beard like a loincloth."
"Mervin stands atop a mountain looking down at a tree-filled area that has a winding river that leads to the sea. Beside the sea is a stone castle with a tower at each of its four corners. Later, Mervin stands near a bathtub and brushes his teeth. No need for poor hygiene just because it's the Middle Ages! In another scene, Mervin paints a heart on a canvas supported on an easel. Still later, Mervin lowers himself along a rope over the head of a sleeping dragon. In another scene, Mervin skis down a mountain, away from a friendly fuzzy monster that is waving. Later, Mervin stands at the ready with an odd-looking jet-pack. When the jet-pack turns on, Mervin bounces all around the narrow margin area, completely out of control, and loses his hat."
"Mervin sails through the air using a bundle of balloons and a fan he has mounted on his back. Mervin rides a giant tortoise that has flames painted on its shell. Mervin plays a lute beside an octopus that is rocking an electric guitar. In an elaborate collection of sketches, a Viking ship sails on the surface of the ocean, troubled by the twisty tentacles of a creature with far too many terrifying teeth to be a proper cephalopod. The Loch Ness Monster waves a flipper at Mervin, who wears scuba gear. Below them, a shark and a squid exchange grumpy glances, and a manatee and a mermaid swim-dance together. Still lower in the ocean is a fish that has a single giant eyeball and no mouth and a sleeping Cthulhu monster with clawed hands and a face dripping tentacles. A sea dragon dreams near a treasure chest, and a crab and an angler fish explore a sunken lifeboat. Overwhelmed by the weight of so many myths and stories, Mervin zonks out atop a bed of open books."
"Refreshed from his nap, Mervin approaches a book on a plinth. The book has a fang-filled face on the cover and seems to be dozing. One of its eyes is covered by a length of metal that holds the book closed and is secured with a padlock. The padlock is also threaded through a long metal chain. The Necronomicon book wakes up and yanks against its chain to open a too-wide mouth and stretch its bookmark-ribbon tongue toward Mervin. Mervin startles. Later, Mervin smears some apple spread on a piece of bread. Mervin presents an open picnic basket to the Necronomicon, who examines the basket with its one eye. The Necronomicon dives into the basket and sprays crumbs everywhere. Then Nommy the book peeks out of the basket, which is now in tatters. Mervin holds up a pair of wire cutters as tall as he is. The chain is cut, and Nommy expels cartoon hearts of gratitude. Mervin and Nommy read a storybook together."
"Mervin looks up at a large tavern made of stone walls and a thatched roof. Inside the tavern, Mervin helps himself to a foamy drink and keeps his healing potion nearby. Three adventurers sporting impractically large beards enter the tavern. One of them triumphantly holds aloft a scaly egg that's as big as Mervin. He holds the egg forward while one of his companions demands fried eggs. The three adventurers sit at the tavern bar while the tavern chef walks off with the egg. But Mervin hears the egg tunefully chirping, and he's horrified! While the chef begins chopping vegetables, Mervin sneaks up to the egg."

"Mervin flees, the singing egg in his arms, from a well-armed chef and three hungry adventurers. Mervin hides behind a large tree trunk, keeping the egg hidden with him. Back at the tavern, the chef finds Mervin's healing potion, and Mervin left a bag of money to settle his tab. Out in the woods, Mervin knits a scarf beside a fire and talks to the egg. The next morning, Mervin totes the egg behind him in a wagon, and the egg wears a knit hat and scarf. Mervin and the egg whistle and chirp, and a pair of musical notes show they're singing the same tune. Above the tavern village, a dragon flies by, trailing smoke from its mouth. The townsfolk point to it."
