Synopsis

Secluded all her life on a small island, a woman faces odd experiences when one winter the channel connecting the island to the mainland freezes over.

Notes

"It was originally published as "Do the Dead Sing?" in Yankee Magazine in November 1981 and only republished in that form in The Best of Yankee, 1935-1985. King substantially revised the tale and collected it in Skeleton Crew as "The Reach". While the core tale does not change, the original lacked the phrase "Do you love?"
