Haldeman offered "The Hemingway Hoax" novel to Gardner Dozois for serialization in IASFM. Dozois loved it, but could not schedule it in time as a serial. With Haldeman's support, Dozois edited it down to novella length and it was published in the April 1990 Asimov's, two months before the novel was published. This information is from the story introduction to "The Hemingway Hoax" in "Nebula Awards 26", James Morrow editor, 1992 Harcourt Brace Jovanovich.
