This story was published almost 12 years after the author's death. It was credited as by "Cordwainer Smith" in the original Galaxy publication and elsewhere. The introduction by John J. Pierce from "The Rediscovery of Man: The Complete Short Science Fiction of Cordwainer Smith" (1993, The NESFA Press) says that this story was from an unfinished manuscript, which was worked on by Genevieve Linebarger (Smith's wife).
