The Dead Smile

An evil sick old man maintains an evil secret which destroyed his wife, and hopes that it will curse his son and his son's fiance after his death; the evil brings his wife's spirit back as a banshee, and manifests itself as a skeletal grin which infects everyone who comes in contact.

First published in the magazine Ainslee's, August 1899.
