No doubt the illustrations date from 1901 and 1902, if not also 1903. Harper & Brothers published a Peter Newell Edition, so-called in some advertisements, each October for the holiday season: 1901 Wonderland, 1902 Looking-Glass, and 1903 The Hunting of the Snark and Other Poems and Verses, including all of the poems from both Alice novels; each with 40 plates from Newell's paintings.
Thus 80 Newell illustrations of the two novels, 40 each, were published in the 1901 and 1902 editions. The 1903 collection of poetry contains all of the verse from the two novels, with two more distinct illustrations of Looking-Glass in that section.
