From Great British Tales of Terror (Vol.1: 1972- Victor Gollancz Ltd.), edited by {A{Peter Haining}}. Though listed as a tale from a 1798 anthology entitled 'Tales of the Crypt, in the style of the Monk' (Monk being {{A|Matthew Gregory Lewis}}, this is actually a tale from an 1839 collection of German Rhine legends by Joseph Snowe.
