<br>
A fable, in which a prince whose beloved dies spends years building a grand tomb for her, until ultimately his appreciation for the architecture itself eclipses his memory of his love.
Published December 1925 in The Strand Magazine (London) with illustrations by {{a|Charles Robinson}}. --The FictionMags Index
That is the first publication according to Wikipedia (2020-05-07). FictionMags identifies instead "The Atlantic Edition of the Works of H.G. Wells, Unwin 1924", probably referring to a volume dated 1925 (below, Unwin (UK) and Scribner's (US)). The next story by Wells that FictionMags lists, alphabetically by title, is "Pearl of Love: Allegory", as a short story published December 1925 in The Forum (New York). That may be the same story.
