A version was published July 1915 in US monthly magazine The Century as "The Lost Last Trump" by Reginald Bliss, with two full-page illustrations by Henry Raleigh, pp. 369-78 (viewed at HathiTrust).

This story is likely to be an extract from, or otherwise modified version of, the last chapter of Boon: Chapter the Tenth: The Story of the Last Trump or pp. 295-342 in the 1st ed. (viewed at HathiTrust). The chapter contains 14 numbered sections, and the first 13 appear to constitute Boon's purported story. Section 14 begins (p. 336): "There was something of invalid peevishness even in the handwriting of Boon's last story, the Story of the Last Trump. Of course, I see exactly what Boon is driving at in this fragment. ..."
