A man visiting his friend who lives in an old abbey awakens to find a skeletal apparition at his bedside, which he takes to be a practical joke.
According to his introduction to this story in his anthology The Screaming Skull and Other Classic Horror Stories, this story originally appeared in the magazine McClure's Magazine in 1907 and was later expanded. It was this revision that would appear in his collection Raw Edges.
