Notes

Originally serialized in Magasin d'Éducation et de Récréation in three parts, each part restarting chapter numbers. All parts have "L'Ile mystérieuse" as the title and are illustrated by Jules-Descartes Férat (as Férat). Part 1, sub-titled as "Les Naufragés de l'air" appeared from 1 Jan, 1874 (issue #186) to 1 Sep, 1874 (issue #204) and had an additional illustration by Jules Verne (Carte d'Ile Lincoln). Part 2, sub-titled as " L'abandonné" appeared from 15 Sep, 1874 (issue #234) to 15 Apr, 1875 (issue #248). Part 3, sub-titled as "Le secret de l'ile" appeared from 1 May, 1875 (issue #249) to 15 Dec, 1875 (issue #264). The original UK translation came out in September 1875 and contained 195,000 words. It appeared in three volumes: ''Dropped from the Clouds'', ''The Abandoned'' and ''The Secret of the Island''. The Fitzroy edition, abridged by I. O. Evans, was published in two parts: ''Dropped from the Clouds'' or ''The Secret of the Island''.
