Lord Ernie, a young aristocrat without any character, is taken round the world in the hope these travels will make a man out of him. They don't, until he is taken to the top of a mountain in the Swiss Jura, and participates in the heathen rites of wind and fire worshippers. He then becomes a self-assured, aggressive person, who will enjoy a brief but volcanic political career.
