Publication year unknown, but reportedly first appeared in one of the volumes of "Modern Reading" edited by Reginald Moore between 1940 and 1952. Since this story was reprinted in the 1949 collection "Thou Shalt Not Suffer a Witch", the original publication date must have been between 1940 and 1949.
