"fantasy about a guy who makes mechanical lizards. (In his world, there weren't any lizards. It's just an idea that occurred to him one day.)" – Barrett, 2000
Later Barrett books claim "won the Best Fiction of the Year award from The West Coast Publishers"; the his archives' catalog at Texas State Uni. specifies "One "Maggie" award for "The Lizard Shoppe" for best fiction from Dragon Magazine".
Spelled single-Z Lizard throughout the Dragon and elsewhere; ISFDB's pre-2021 doubled "Lizzard" seems spurious mistake influenced by Shoppe, though sadly copied much online.
Some 9900 words, the text itself taking up pp. 59 to 68 in the magazine; 58 is color illustration by {{A|Mark Nelson}}.
