A male human apprentice interplanetary trader in his mid-twenties and a female adolescent fighter who belongs to a race of engineered humans join together on a quest to find and defeat a group of the engineered humans who have gone rogue and are trying to establish themselves as rulers of both races, beginning near the galactic rim.
