In a postapocalyptic future where mutants serve in a lower caste, the grandson of a prominent family is struck with an inferiority complex after he finds out his mother had been a mutant, which spurs him on a path to acquire wealth and power. But when he finds a long-hidden dead man and his hoard of treasure, he comes to realize that wealth, power, and status are illusions, and that mutants and normals are all just humans living their transient lives.
