A Bushman's Story

Frances Faucett

First published June 2003
Type Short Fiction
Length Short Story

"A Bushman's Story was published privately in Sydney in 1886 when Francis Faucett was twenty years old. This single volume which includes the poem Thou Must Write and the short story A Bushman's Story appears to be Faucett's only published work and the latter short story is appended with the date 'December 1882'. Faucett had attended Kincoppal-Rose Bay School of the Sacred Heart between 1882 and 1886 where she won several prizes including one for Grammar and Composition. The school had a tradition of readings and presentations to celebrate the end of the school year and it may be that Faucett wrote the ghost story A Bushman's Story for this event, when she was aged just sixteen."
