First published apart from the story in Always Comes Evening, Arkham House, 1959.
Parts of the poem are quoted in the text of The Sowers of the Thunder (Ch. 2), Dark Valley Destiny (Ch. 5) and The Barbaric Triumph (Ch. 2), among others.
The parts heading Chapters 2 and 5 are purported by the author to be from "The Road of Kings".
