Birth place: Minden, Province of Westphalia, Kingdom of Prussia, German Empire

Wiese lived, worked, and traveled during his apprenticeship as a salesman in China from 1909 to 1915, where he was interned during the First World War. After returning briefly to Germany he moved to Brazil and began to illustrate books intended for a young audience. Finally, he emigrated in 1927 to the USA.
