Novelist and playwright who received among other honours the Franz Kafka Prize. He was born as Ivan Kauders, but the family legally changed their surname to Klíma in 1945. Though a dissident and at the time of the Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia in August 1968 being in London & on his way to a teaching engagement in Michigan, USA, he returned to Prague in March 1970, where he remained with his family.
