46 stories British Library record {{BL|012474569}} notes that this is a reissue of 1936 [sic] Odhams Press anthology The Great Books of Thrillers (see), but only 41 stories are contained in both (with some differences in the sequence).

Five stories are in the 1991 anthology only (by 1991 page number): 405 • Staley Fleming's Hallucination (1906), Ambrose Bierce 443 • The Phantom Coach (1864), Amelia B. Edwards 515 • The Dilemma of Phadrig (1827), Gerald Griffin 553 • The Doctor's Ghost (1862), Norman MacLeod 634 • A Spanish Ghost Story (1937), uncredited Compare the 1935 anthology.
