Balzac's "An Episode of the Terror" is the 1890 translation by William Wilson (originally titled "In the Time of the Terror"). Month ("0973") on front flap of Archive.org copy; cover artist on back flap. On the upper left corner of the front flap is "A Midnight Anthology of Suspense" below a drawing of a clock striking midnight with a vulture standing over it; searching for that phrase on Archive.org only finds this book and an ad for the book in the Oct. 22, 1973 issue of The New Yorker. Possibly this was the only book in the series?
