A ballad (in four-line stanzas) that may have been written down from oral performance during the 17th century. It is found in the Percy Folio manuscript, in the part of the manuscript that has had half of every page torn off. Bishop Thomas Percy included a reconstructed version in Reliques of Ancient Poetry (1765). Child included The Marriage of Sir Gawain as his Ballad 31.
This record is for the original, which has been transcribed and printed in several scholarly editions, with a separate record for Percy's reconstruction.
