<br> First, "a detailed description of the construction of a great railway bridge across the Ganges". The nearly complete bridge is threatened by a flood and saved by Findlayson, Chief Engineer. Findlayson is washed down river in boat, to an island. In a vision the gods "protest against the bridging of the river". --Kipling Society
