Notes (Trips to the Moon)

Notes by 1780 translator Thomas Francklin, D.D.

Title "Trips from the Moon" dates from the 1887 collection, a selection from the Works of Lucian in which these notes originated.

Originally these are unnumbered footnotes in The Works of Lucian, from the Greek (1780, 2 vols; 1781, 4 vols). They are unnumbered footnotes also in Cassell's, and editor Henry Morley's, selection of 3 works as Trips to the Moon (1887). They are numbered endnotes in the Project Gutenberg ed. --and any editions derived from it, such as the Gateway / Orion ebook evidently-- where the numbers represent 1887 page numbers: numbers between 17 and 190 inclusive, with lowercase letters to distinguish multiple footnotes on one 1887 page. (The main text and endnotes are hyperlinked back-and-forth in HTML format.)
