Library records show that the collection was re-set as 1038 pages for the 14th printing, 1948; only later re-named as Complete.

19th impression
That is, 19th edition/printing of the 63-story Ernest Benn collection The Short Stories of H. G. Wells, first published 1927; but the first as The Complete Stories.
WorldCat records support that by reporting The Short Stories with same page-count as 1957 and 1960, the former as 17th impression (in the database); by reporting The Complete Short Stories as 1966 and 20th impression.
WorldCat record OCLC 28172435, which states "[1965]" and "[19th impression]", also provides a Contents list of story titles, but those are known to be the first 32 of 63 stories.
Sometime earlier the collection was re-set as 1038 rather than 1148 pages, probably between the 13th and 14th impressions on the publisher's count.
